Kirill Yakovlev

Kirill Yakovlev was born in 1961 in St. Petersburg. Later he moved to Khabarovsk, where from 1973-1977 he attended a children’s art school. There he studied at the Architectural Institute, which he graduated in 1984. Since 1990, he began to actively exhibit and take part in various exhibitions not only in Khabarovsk, but also in other cities. In 2008 he became a member of the Union of Artists of Russia, and two years later moved closer to Moscow.

Kirill Yakovlev is now working on the topic of creating an ideal painting. Only if you use something completely ordinary you may create the such painting. By leveling the differences in content within certain groups (depicting nature, man or architecture for artist), a pattern is born that reduces the image to a simple sign. In this light, the painting begins to acquire the quality of a universal piece of art. On the one hand, it does not cease to be comprehended as part of the artistic world, on the other, due to its “ideality” it acquires practical significance. Such a painting is not a way how the artist wants to convey his personal perception of the world, but rather it helps the viewer to express his condition, to understand himself, perhaps even to solve some problems.

Kirill Yakovlev creates objects as well. His series “Lining” is designed to make life easier for collectors. Inherently wooden boards perform an aesthetic function, “improving” the interior of newly built houses. Hanging pictures on such a perfect surface makes no sense, so the artist proposes to combine the lining and painting. He uses expensive, natural wood and makes it all on a very high level. Thus, the idealistic and commercial project is born at once that embodies the desire of beauty.

Kirill Yakovlev’s artwork are in the collections of the Far Eastern Art Museum in Khabarovsk and Museum of Modern Art in Vladivostok.
Currently, the artist lives and works in Elektrostal.
