Vasily Slonov

Vasily Slonov is a Russian artist, who lives in Krasnoyarsk. He is a participant and a winner of many regional, national and international art projects.
He was born on September 17, 1969 in the village of Shushenskoye, Krasnoyarsk. From 1985 to 1991 he studied at the Krasnoyarsk Art College named after Surikov. Exhibition activity began in 1992.

The author does not a follower consistent opponent of shocking.
In 2013, his personal exhibition “Welcome! Sochi 2014” in the framework of the White Nights festival served as a pretext for the dismissal of gallery owner Marat Gelman from the post of director of the Perm State Museum of Contemporary Art PERMM. Gelman was dismissed from the post of director after he opened three exhibitions in the museum, which took place during the festival. Among them were pictures of Slonov like posters with images of Cheburashka in the form of a huge monster, Olympic rings in the form of gallows loops, Stalin with vampire fangs and bleeding birch.
The artist creates a lot of work from cotton. On September 28, 2015, Slonov presented a cotton sculpture called “The Heart of the Motherland”, which was installed on the square in front of the Krasnoyarsk Museum. According to him, he called his work in this way, due to the idea of big and warm feeling, “predictably blackened by the sweat and blood of already past generations”.
Since 2011, the artist collaborates with the gallery “11.12” at Winzavod. In 2015, it hosted his exhibition entitled “Quilted cavaliers of Apocalypse”. During the exhibition, his works “The Birth of the Padded Jacket”, “Cotton Globe”, “The Cotton Bust of the President”, “The Garden of Cotton Stones”, “Cotton Swimsuits” and others were presented at the gallery.
After the presidential elections in 2018, Slonov on the social network “congratulated” their compatriots on the election of «Quilted Waiter”. Famous works of the artist are also fly swatters with faces of famous politicians, kokoshniks with symbols of organizations such as the KGB, FSF and GULAG, oil mosquitos, that extract oil from the depths of the planet, “Gulag” perfume with smells of toadstools, forest and moss etc.
