Slava PTRK

Slava Ptrk was born in 1990 in Shadrinsk, Kurgan region. He graduated from the art school there and later moved to Yekaterinburg, where he entered the Ural State University named after A.M. Gorky at the Faculty of Journalism, majoring in print media.
In 2014, he graduated from the CEC Artslink Public Art course in New York. In 2016-2018, he studied contemporary art at the Free Workshops school in Moscow, at the Summer Academy Summer School in Salzburg, and at the School of Photography and Multimedia named after him. Rodchenko in Moscow.

From 2011 to 2014, he supervised the Traffaret platform at the Stenograffia Street Art Festival in Yekaterinburg. In 2014, he became a co-founder of the street art gallery “Sweater” (Yekaterinburg). In 2018, he created the festival of guerrilla street art “Carte Blanche” (Yekaterinburg).
Slava Park is Sergey Kuryokhin Award nominee (2013, 2018), winner of the Portrait Now International Award (Denmark). Participant of the Krasnoyarsk Museum Biennale of Contemporary Art (2013), the Ural Industrial Biennale (2015), the Moscow International Biennale of Young Art (2018), as well as the II and III Biennale of Street Art “Artmossfera” (2016, 2018). Participant of art residencies in Russia, Ukraine, Montenegro, Italy, USA and Switzerland. He has created works for public art festivals in Russia, Kazakhstan, Estonia, Italy, Spain, Norway.
Slava Ptrk started doing graffiti from the age of 14: at first, it was simple inscriptions, and later he added a stencil, which eventually became one of his typical techniques. Along with it, he also developed large social projects that were represented by a synthesis of research, installations, and actions. In this aspect, he used the skills which he learned during his journalistic education. In every project he created, the key importance is assigned to a person: the social factor has a predominant role, revealed through artistic talent.
The “Loneliness” series has linked together all Slava Ptrk’s artworks of different formats and media (from graffiti and found objects to laser cutting on metal and wood), putting at the forefront the theme of different people living moments alone with themselves. Moreover, not only the specifics of a certain character are important here, but also his compositional “environment”, which helps to reveal the character and, perhaps, get to know him better.
The project “Not Needed There, Not Needed Here” was a large-scale total installation, each element of which represented certain references of the childhood of Slava Ptrk. The artist analyzed what exactly influenced him as an artist. Since he grew up in the 90s, all the topics were recognizable and close to many viewers.
A significant project created by Slava Ptrk was a collaboration with the SPBCH band — “1999”. It was dedicated to the memory of the events of the first and second Chechen wars. Memories of witnesses and soldiers are gathered together and turned into a total installation at an abandoned military facility near Moscow. The project showed personal, subjective and unique stories of people, and through the prism of each hero’s unique experience told about those events once again and highlighted the need of any war.
